Thank You So Much! -Why You Need To Have Gratitude FI

A life well lived is a life of gratitude and forgiveness. The universal law of gratitude teaches that “thank you” isn’t to be saved for the big things in life only, instead even the ones that seem small aren’t too small to be grateful for. You should never leave anything out when you’re practicing gratitude. So, how to practice gratitude?

The University of Sheffield is teaching the world how to express gratitude to the universe by erecting a “Wall of Gratitude” in Sheffield where you’re allowed to go and write whatever it is that you’re grateful for. In fact, more studies reveal a great correlation between gratitude and high levels of wellbeing including protection from stress and depression, healthier relationships, better sleep and general resilience.

This is the Universal Law of Attraction at work, the one that (if you have read the article where we talked about the 12 Universal Laws, you will remember) states that you attract people or things with the same vibrational energy as you. Learning how to practice gratitude simply means is that if you see and appreciate the good in people, places, things or events, you will, in turn, attract and pick up similar energy from around you. You will, in turn, be appreciated; this is the gratitude law of attraction. The opposite too is true; if you’re detached from being mindful of the present and feeling grateful about it, you won’t feel appreciated because you cannot attract what you don’t have.

This is why even psychologists say Gratitude is magic. Here are some of the proven benefits of being grateful:

  • Opens doors for more healthier relationships
  • Learning how to practice gratitude gives a boost to your general well being, energy and happiness
  • Stimulates your mental health, reducing stress, depression, pain, and anxiety
  • Improves functioning in the reward-centre of your brain – replacing that painful addiction with a powerful pleasant reward
  • Improves sleep quality
  • Enhances empathy and reduces aggressive feelings
  • Promotes self-esteem and motivation
  • Helps you see what is “right” with this picture versus what is “wrong” with the world which gives you a more positive perspective (reframing), making you more mindful of positive things, therefore, attracting positivity in your life

It is therefore clear why these two energies of Gratitude and Forgiveness are immensely powerful to work with and why they bring profound healing to people who use them. This means that learning how to practice gratitude can really change the quality of your life.

You might be wondering why I am mentioning these as deeper levels of healing. The answer is that for many people, the initial stages of a breakup are so painful and intense that unless they already have a strong gratitude and forgiveness practice, they can’t engage with these energies.

When you are clouded, angry, confused and anxious it can be very difficult to access feelings of gratitude and forgiveness. But now that you have spent time lowering your levels of stress and inviting healing into your life, it can be incredibly beneficial to start to practice finding ways how to practice gratitude and offering forgiveness – to yourself and anyone else who you perceive has hurt you. This way you will experience the fruits of gratitude in advance manifestation that will soon follow.

Use the Forgiveness & Be Kind To Yourself Frequency to release lingering anger at yourself or your ex for the pain you have been through, and use it to access gratitude for the healing and powerful learning journey you are going through. If you can’t forgive your ex – don’t worry. You don’t have to force forgiveness before you’re ready. It’s far more important to allow forgiveness for yourself – especially if you tend to blame yourself for things going wrong. Understanding how to practice gratitude means accepting yourself first. Commit to your own healing – you deserve to focus on you.

Gratitude can be as simple as writing down three things at the end of the day you are grateful for. They can be anything (positive!) – from large to small. You might be grateful for a beautiful spring day. Or you might feel grateful for your friends and family. When learning how to practice gratitude, in time you can learn to completely reframe your whole breakup experience, or almost any other traumatic event, by being grateful for all the doors that have opened in your life as a result, and for all you have learned about yourself as a person.

Gratitude is also an energy that’s very high-vibration and can work wonders when you are moving into manifesting the life you want for yourself.

Gratitude in Practice

Hoʻoponopono is the ancient Hawaiian practice that utilises the power of Repentance, Forgiveness, Gratitude, and Love. Originally Ho’oponopono was used by the members of the community  to resolve a conflict or provide closure between people or families. The modern version can be done in front of the mirror in the privacy of your home. One thing remains – behind Hoʻoponopono meaning there lies a great power of love that can help us connect with others and with ourselves. I find that this is especially powerful when you look at yourself in the eye and “say” the words out loud.

Step 1: Repentance – I’M SORRY

This is one Hoʻoponopono mantra that can show us the way to acceptance which is why it is so powerful and important. The effort it takes to truly realise your responsibility for something can be very painful. We may have a lot of things that we know that are our fault but we never say them out loud, because it is hard and makes us feel bad or ashamed. By holding on to it even if it is just to ourselves, we increase the weight of an unnecessary burden swirling around inside our hearts making our chests tight and heavy. In the process of discovering how to practice gratitude, you will notice that the very act of saying it out loud sets you free.

Choose something that you are sorry for (anything from you losing your temper with your children to bombing an interview, health problems, to cheating on your ex or current partner) and follow this format:

“I AM SORRY for ___________________________.”

Step 2: Ask Forgiveness – PLEASE FORGIVE ME

It doesn’t matter  who or what you’re asking forgiveness for. Just ask! PLEASE FORGIVE ME. Repeat it over and over again.  Be utterly sincere. Keep your remorse from step 1 in mind as you ask to be forgiven.

Step 3: Gratitude – THANK YOU

Say “THANK YOU” – regardless of who or what you’re thinking. In many Hoʻoponopono books the power of gratitude plays a very important role on our path to healing. Say “thank you” for the lessons a particular situation has taught you. Even if the results are not immediately obvious, say “thank you” for the ongoing process and the part it is playing in your recovery. Say “thank you” for the progress you are making in reaching your full potential. Just keep repeating THANK YOU.

Step 4: Love – I LOVE YOU

Say I LOVE YOU. Don’t forget to say it to yourself. Don’t hesitate to say I LOVE YOU out loud to yourself, even if it feels strange! Keep in mind that we say I LOVE YOU to everyone else, but it’s rare that we remember ourselves in this context, or make that act of affirmation of love out loud. So say it to your challenges, repeating it over and over. Be completely sincere. Feel it. There is nothing as powerful as Love and this should always be part of your how to practice gratitude lesson.
