Setting intentions – “Each intention — anger, greed, compassion, understanding — sets energy into motion… What you intend is what you become…Power is energy that is formed by the intentions of the soul. It is Light shaped by the intentions of love and compassion guided by wisdom. It is energy that is focused and directed toward the fulfilment of the tasks of the soul upon the Earth.” ~ Gary Zukav
When it comes to doing any sort of spiritual work, especially when it comes to your healing, the first thing I would like you to do is set your intention.
We see many setting intentions examples on a daily basis, from daily to-do lists to more complex versions. An intention works with you across several levels – physically, emotionally and energetically. It’s vitally important that you begin your work by connecting to what you want.
Intention setting is incredibly powerful, and essentially provides your energetic body and subconscious mind with a roadmap pointing to where you want to be.
As many setting intentions quotes highlight, the intention is a way to redirect your energy into where you want it to go, rather than where you are now. This doesn’t mean that you have to think only positive thoughts! It simply means that you need to know what you truly intend for yourself. It’s similar to committing to a goal.
If you find it hard to imagine how powerful intent is, remember that your brain is a very powerful processing machine. We still have lots to discover about it, but you can think up to 50,000 thoughts a day and process huge amounts of sensory information. This means that a lot of what you think – which directly impacts how you feel – is automatic and that your mind filters information at a dizzying rate. When you set a clear, positive intention, you help your mind to realign with that intention. So in that way, your thoughts really do create your own reality!
Setting intentions also helps your energetic and spiritual body – your ‘Higher Self’ or ‘Core Self’ – to emerge. This is the part of you that is truly made up of love and has only the best intention for you. When you are in the midst of a painful situation it can be hard to connect to this part of yourself.
How do you set an intention?
So, how to set an intention for manifestation? Your intention should be something that is positive and entirely about loving growth and healing for yourself. When setting intentions for love or getting over a relationship, don’t try to set intentions that focus on your ex – like getting revenge, or getting them back. This puts all your healing energy and focus onto them, which is the last thing you want or need right now! Remember, we need to get you vibrationally capable state to attract what you want, and we need to begin at neutral then build up from there.
Another thing to avoid is the idea of “I’ll show them.” Anger and rage can be powerful and sometimes helpful to give you a burst of energy in the short term. But it’s unwise to make your healing intention about growing in such a way that you can ‘show’ your ex or make them regret breaking up with you. You don’t have to stress and use this as your drive. When you take care of yourself and become more in alignment with your higher self, such vindication happens naturally. And when it happens – you might have already forgotten who did what to you because your life would have been upgraded in such a way that trivial things like that fell off the backburner a long time ago.
Intentions which are based on your own recovery, growth and healing will be the most effective and give you the best long-term results. You can create your own intention by writing down what you feel your core needs are, or you can use this intention as a starting point:
“My intention is to heal from my breakup and move into a new phase of thriving in my life.”
It can be helpful to write the above intention (or your own version of it, one that’s personal to you) in a journal, as well as other places where you will regularly see it. This could be setting intentions for the week or a long-term goal. You can put some notes around the house, or keep one in your bag or somewhere you will see it at work so you can be reminded of your intention throughout the day.
All holistic practices around the world are based on the concept of energy, which impacts the human spirit and well-being. Objects around us have energy on their own as well, but more importantly, we can use this to channel our thought and intention and to clear energetic blocks standing on our way. This is why before you begin this healing journey, take the time to find objects that will help you set the stage for setting the intention. Here is what you’ll need:
The Right Scent – Incense sticks not only have a deeply soothing effect but also cleanse the body from negative energy. Go for whatever scent suits you best, but choose natural aromas if you can, as these will help elevate the vibration of the room you choose as your ‘intention setting” sanctuary.
Salt – In spiritual practice, salt is the natural neutraliser and cleanser. It heals and balances our energetic fields and works as a shield, protecting us from negative energy.
When negative energy is repelled, this opens the door to setting the intention and attracting what we want to attract. Again, opt for natural salt, ideally Pink Himalayan Salt Sea Salt (Kosher Salt), Epsom Salts, as these are the most potent purifiers. If you are having an emergency and only have table salt (iodised salt) on hand, you can use it until you get your hands on the good stuff.
Bell – The sound produced by the bell has the power to synchronise the frequencies in our body, through sending relaxing vibrations that positively impact the air and water in the organism. This diffuses negative energy, heals mental imbalance and allows free flow of thoughts. For this practice, you can choose any bell you like. Tibetan singing bowls are a deeply spiritual and powerful option.
Candle – A symbol of creation, action and purification the flame helps redirect the energy in the desired direction and removes energetic obstacles. Candlelight lifts the consciousness and eliminates fear and doubt from the space.

Coming up in our next installment: We will talk about your holistic health so you can begin to get immediate relief and take charge of how you’re feeling.
This guided meditation is one of the most fundamental to your healing process – it will help you to ground, balance and cleanse. Grounding is incredibly important as it helps to connect you back to yourself, realign your energy body and access the healing power of the Earth.
The more you keep a clear intention as you listen to the sound frequencies, and engage in the meditations and exercises, the more you will pull that lighter, more fulfilling, energy towards you.
It’s also a great idea to repeat your intention, out loud if possible, as well as writing it down. Repeat it as often as you can. Don’t worry too much right now if other thoughts, doubts or worries come up. It’s natural to have them at this stage and they will lessen as time goes on and you listen to the frequencies and reclaim your energy.
Reaching a state of Trinity is where your mind, body, and soul are balanced, allowing your innate sense of inner calm to return to the surface. Tune in and listen to this powerful holistic frequency before you go to sleep every night, as it will align your mind, body and energetic body, helping you to become balanced.
If you keep waking up tired, no matter how many hours of sleep you have had, this frequency will help you enter a deeply restful sleep that allows you to wake rejuvenated and full of energy. This way, you can feel properly rested and ready for positive activities that support your healing.
Water has a tremendous healing power and takes meditation to another, higher level, boosting its effects. It calms the mind, releases muscle tension and removes stored tension from the mind and the body. This is why, to make the most of the four essentials you gathered for setting intentions meditation it’s good to start your practice in a hot bath.
Here is a little guide to setting intentions meditation in a bath: When the bath is ready, start by lighting the candle and the incense. This will spread a calming aroma to purify the room and set the positive atmosphere you need.
Then add the salt to the water. Natural salt, especially Epsom salt is rich in magnesium, which helps the body and the mind clear from toxins and balances us out, helping us release all the negative energy we stored. Have a good soak in, use the bell to raise the vibration of the water and let the healing begin. Let the calming effect of the space heal you. In the end, the water will absorb all the “old” energy so don’t forget to rinse the body with clear water, to make sure you have “washed off” all the negativity.
Before and during the preparation of the bath, it is essential to set the intention to heal. Look at all the objects, listen to the water filling the bathtub and let the thought of relaxing guide you. Setting the intention is vital, as this way you are opening yourself to healing, getting in touch with your energy, emotions and thoughts and allowing yourself to feel good. Revive in your mind what you are grateful for. Ask your higher self and guides on this healing journey to give you strength and fill your soul with love and positive energy. Thank them for protecting you and let them know you believe in their guidance. You can do this out loud or repeat it in your mind.
If setting an intention seems like too much effort because you can’t make sense of what you are feeling right now, let alone muster enough energy to focus on a clear goal, the best thing to do is dig your heels into the ground and face the music.
